ETH004/24 OSA Mobile: pricing and pilot launch notification

07/03/2024

For information

This briefing is for all Communications Providers (CPs).

This briefing is to inform CPs about the launch pricing of OSA Mobile. It also sets out the next steps for notification of the pilot launch.

Openreach is pleased to announce the pricing of its new OSA Mobile product. This is published on the Openreach Price List under section 3.4. This will be a new Optical section within the Ethernet pricing. ACCN OR920 refers.

OSA Mobile is a ‘hub and spoke’ solution for deployments to street furniture. It offers direct interworking with customers’ own equipment at the remote end of the service, i.e. OSA Mobile network facing optics will link to the customer’s owned and managed network facing optics in their kit.

OSA Mobile will initially launch in a restricted capacity under pilot terms and conditions whilst we bed down the new product processes and procedures and complete the development of additional product and operational functionality. We expect the pilot launch to go live from 29 April 2024 and anticipate coming out of pilot phase and moving to full launch in November 2024.

Please note that this product is not permitted for the use of aggregating Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) to multiple sites for the purposes of deploying a fibre access network, i.e. FTTP Aggregation.

During the pilot phase CPs will be able to:

  • Order Hubs with capacity of 12, 48 or 96 client ports.
  • Order unfiltered spokes at 1G and 10G capacity, offering traffic protocols of 1GE, 10GE, CPRI-7, CPRI-8.
  • Order filtered spokes at 10G capacity, offering traffic protocols of 1GE, 10GE, CPRI-3, CPRI-7, CPRI-8.
  • Order infill wavelengths to a filtered Spoke.

During the pilot phase:

  • CPs will not be able to regrade Hub or Spoke services once they have been delivered.
  • Cumulative Spoke demand from all CPs will be capped at 40 orders per month, processed in date order from when they are received and validated. There will be no cap on Hub orders or subsequent Wavelength infill orders.
  • CPs will need to sign-up to the OSA Mobile Pilot Terms and Conditions to consume the product.  These T&Cs will set out matters including minimum periods, service level agreement, ECCs, TRCs, cancellation charges and ETCs that will apply during the Pilot as well as setting out the process that will govern the migration of Services ordered during the Pilot to the product’s full commercial terms that will support the anticipated full launch in November 2024.

Next steps will be the publication of the associated OSA Mobile product documentation and pilot terms and conditions in line with 28 days notification for an expected pilot product launch of 29 April 2024.
