Ethernet Backhaul Direct

Ethernet Backhaul Direct (EBD) is an efficient and cost-effective way of moving large volumes of data between Openreach nodes, quickly and securely. These nodes are usually aligned to parent handover exchanges for Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) and Fibre to the Premises (FTTP). You get permanently connected, uncontended bandwidth from an access serving node (ASN) to defined Openreach handover points (OHPs) or between defined OHPs.

How it works

We house shared transmission equipment for you, which means you don’t need to add rack space or power. You tell us where in the exchanges you want to interconnect and we bring a pair of hydra cables to your rack. All you need to do is connect these up to your equipment and you’ll be ready to go (the rack that houses your equipment must be located within your Co-Location, NetLocate, Access Locate or BT Locate accommodation).

ASNs and OHPs typically have at least four designated OHPs – two homed and two for extended handover deeper in our network. We’ll provide EBD from the ASN or OHP you ask for to any of the designated OHPs. EBD nodes are exchanges in key geographic locations around the UK.

Benefits

• EBD links you closer to your core network, using pre-defined routes throughout the UK.

• It’s easy to increase the amount of data you’re moving without affecting the space and power you need in your rack at the exchange.

• You can add a resilience option to protect you against fibre breaks and other issues.

• This is a managed service which makes it easy for you to extend the reach of your own network when you grow.

• You can easily check backhaul availability on the Openreach portal.
