Installation options for fibre broadband

From FTTP to FTTC to SOGEA, SOGfast and Gfast, we make it easy for you to bring fibre to your customers.

FTTP 

For our standard installation, our engineers will:

• connect an optical network terminator (ONT) within 1m of the nearest 13amp power socket and up to 10m from where the fibre enters the building
  
• run any external cable needed to reach the nearest suitable fibre entry point.
• connect your customer’s router next to the ONT
• connect one device – a set-top box, PC, laptop or smartphone. They won’t connect games consoles, Wi-Fi extenders or mesh network devices, dongles or any other devices which are specific to a communications provider. And they must have been connected to the customers’ network previously.
• upgrade a master socket to the latest NTE5c design if needed

For our premium installation, our engineers will:

• connect an optical network terminator (ONT) within 1m of the nearest 13amp power socket and – if needed - more than 10m and up to 30m from where the fibre enters the building.
• Run more than 15m of external cable to reach the customer’s preferred fibre entry point.
• connect your customer’s router next to the ONT
• connect up to three devices – a set-top box, PC, laptop or smartphone. They won’t connect games consoles, Wi-Fi extenders or mesh network devices, dongles or any other devices which are specific to a communications provider. And they must have been connected to the customers’ network previously.
• carry out Voice Re-injection Installation (VRI), which uses existing internal wiring to make use of traditional telephones.
• map Wi-Fi to help customers find the strongest signal
• upgrade a master socket to the latest NTE5c design if needed

FTTC 

For new FTTC installations, an engineer will need to go to the local street cabinet. If your customer doesn’t need a new line we can activate the service without going to their home or office. We call this option “PCP only”, or self-install.

We also offer managed installation. That means our engineer will go to your customer’s home or office to set up network terminating equipment (NTE) and make sure any internal extension wiring is working properly. They’ll set up one device and make sure it’s working before they leave.

If you prefer, your own engineers can do certain work if they’ve had the right training. They can:

• change the master socket
• add a master socket if there isn’t one already
• move a master socket if it isn’t in a convenient place (for example, if it’s in a loft).

SOGEA/Gfast/SOGfast 

With managed installation our engineers will install your customers’ equipment and show that the connection is working. You can choose from these options using the Openreach portal or your own B2B systems:

For our standard managed installation, our engineers will:

• connect your customer’s modem or router
• connect one device – a set-top box, PC, laptop or smartphone. They won’t connect games consoles, Wi-Fi extenders or mesh network devices, dongles or any other devices which are specific to a communications provider. And they must have been connected to the customers’ network previously.

For our premium managed installation, our engineers will set up a home or office to make the most of the service. That includes:

• Check existing wiring
• Setting up the modem or router
• Connecting multiple devices – including set-top boxes, PCs, laptops and smartphones
• Mapping Wi-Fi to help customers find the strongest signal

With Gfast we can provide a Gfast modem, while we don’t for SOGFast.
