This briefing is for all Communications Providers (CPs).

This briefing is to notify changes to EAD Rugged 1Gb’s contract which will expand new supply options and allow for provision to Licensed Facilities within Data Centres or another CPs PoP. This briefing is relevant to CPs who wish to provision EAD Rugged 1Gb to non-BT Exchange Licensed Facilities. 

Openreach is expanding options for new supply on EAD Rugged 1Gb to allow for use-cases where a CPs Licensed Facility resides in a Data Centre, or another CP’s Point of Presence (PoP), via changes to the product’s contract.

With the above new supply options available on all minimum contract periods for EAD Rugged 1Gb (36 & 60 months), Openreach customers will have the increased flexibility to terminate:

1. At their Licensed Facility within CP’s PoP (not within an Exchange); or
2. At their Licensed Facility within a Data Centre.

Where EAD Rugged 1Gb is configured for provision to a Licensed Facility within a Data Centre or another CPs PoP, Openreach will charge an increased Annual Rental aligned to EAD 1Gb Standard, with Connection Charges remaining unchanged.

Introductory Special Offer Pricing Period: Up until 10 January 2023

Openreach is launching an introductory special offer pricing period for orders placed - following CPs agreeing to contract changes - up until 10 January 2023 where EAD Rugged 1Gb is configured for provision to Licensed Facilities within Data Centres or a CP’s PoP (not within an Exchange).

Orders placed during the introductory special offer pricing period will benefit from EAD Rugged 1Gb’s existing Rental throughout the duration of their minimum period, in exchange for an additional £500 Connection Charge on top of current prevailing Connection Charges.

At the time of this Briefing’s publication, Openreach’s introductory special offer pricing period will provide customers a total cost of ownership (TCO) saving of £472 over a 36-month minimum period and £1,450 over a 60-month minimum period.

Eligibility criteria for the introductory special offer pricing period will require that: 1) the circuit ordered is EAD Rugged 1Gb; and 2) The EAD Rugged 1Gb circuit has been ordered for provision to a non-BT Licensed Facility, either within a Data Centre, or another CPs PoP. Eligible circuits will be identified proactively by Openreach and will have the £500 Connection Charge increase automatically applied.

This briefing confirms the 90-day notification period that is provided in the Ethernet Access Direct Rugged Services Contract; with contract changes becoming effective for customers already established for EAD Rugged 1Gb as of Friday 27 December 2022.

However, customers already established for EAD Rugged 1Gb are invited to waive their right to the 90-day notification period in order to benefit from new supply options - as well as the introductory special offer pricing period - earlier. Before being able to place orders, CPs will need to establish for EAD Rugged 1Gb and have signed the updated contract.
